How to use it
- Enter pool volume, current chlorine, target chlorine and available chlorine in product.
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
1 ppm = 1 mg per liter. Available chlorine (g) = (target − current) × volume in liters ÷ 1000. Product (g) = available chlorine ÷ (strength % ÷ 100).
Example
Inputs: Pool volume = 50,000 L, Current chlorine = 1 ppm, Target chlorine = 3 ppm, Available chlorine in product = 65 %. Result: Product to add: 154 g; In kilograms: 0.154 kg; Available chlorine added: 100 g.
Limits and caveats
- For solid products (granules or tablets) labeled with available chlorine by weight, not liquid bleach.
- Sunlight and swimmers use up chlorine, so retest a few hours after dosing.
Questions about this tool
What free chlorine level should I aim for?
Most guidance puts home pools between 1 and 3 ppm; check your local health authority advice.
How strong are common products?
Calcium hypochlorite is usually 65 to 70%, trichlor tablets about 90% and dichlor about 56 to 62%. Use the figure on your pack.
Do I pour it straight into the pool?
Follow the label. Many granular products should be dissolved in a bucket of water first and poured near the return jets.
