How it is calculated
Sun letters: ت ث د ذ ر ز س ش ص ض ط ظ ل ن. Moon letters: ء ب ج ح خ ع غ ف ق ك م ه و ي and the alef forms.

Limits and caveats
- It checks words that start directly with ال and does not split prefixes such as و and ب in «والقمر» or «بالقلم».
- A word that happens to begin with ا ل without the article may be counted.

How can I remember the sun letters?
They start the words of a well-known Arabic verse: «طب ثم صل رحما تفز ضف ذا نعم دع سوء ظن زر شريفا للكرم».
Why is «الله» skipped?
The lam in the name of God has its own pronunciation rule, so it is left out.
Does this help with spelling?
Yes, a sun lam is written but not spoken and the next letter is doubled, a common source of spelling mistakes.
