How to use it

  1. Enter text.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Each digit maps to its superscript: ¹ ² ³ (U+00B9 U+00B2 U+00B3) and ⁰ ⁴ to ⁹ (U+2070, U+2074 to U+2079); + − = ( ) map to U+207A to U+207E; letters map to modifier letters such as ᵃ (U+1D43) and ⁿ (U+207F).

Example

Result: Styled text: ˣ²⁺¹; Characters changed: 4.

x2+1
ˣ²⁺¹

Limits and caveats

  • These are Unicode symbols, not a font: screen readers may read them as symbol names or skip them, and in-app search may not match them.
  • There is no widely supported superscript q, so q stays as typed; capitals C F S X Y Z use the small superscript letter since no capital form exists.

Questions about this tool

How do I write square meters, m²?

Type m, then copy the ² you get from typing 2 here. Typing m2 gives ᵐ², which is usually not what you want for units.

Why do some characters sit higher or look smaller?

Superscript characters come from different Unicode blocks, so fonts sometimes draw them at uneven heights.

Should I use it for formal equations?

For papers and reports use your editor's superscript formatting, which is more precise; this tool suits messages and posts.
