How it is calculated
grams = cups × 143 g per US cup (236.59 mL) for the first type; each type shows its own figure in the source line. For a 250 mL metric cup the weight is 143 × 250 ÷ 236.59 = 151.11 g. A US tablespoon is 1/16 cup and a teaspoon 1/48 cup; metric spoons are 15 mL and 5 mL.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 2, Measure = Cup, Cup standard = US cup (236.6 mL), Almond form = Whole almonds. Result: Weight in grams: 286 g; Weight in ounces: 10.09 oz; Grams per cup used: 143 g.
Limits and caveats
- Ground almonds compress easily; the figure (95 g) is for an unpacked cup.
- Figures are for raw or blanched almonds as chosen; oil roasted almonds differ slightly.
- USDA figures are rounded to the whole gram per cup, and grain size, variety and moisture make your real weight a little higher or lower.
