How to use it
- Enter recipe pan shape, diameter, side or length (recipe), width for a rectangle (recipe), your pan shape, diameter, side or length (your pan) and width for a rectangle (your pan).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
Area: round = π × (diameter ÷ 2)², square = side², rectangle = length × width. Factor = new pan area ÷ recipe pan area.
Example
Inputs: Recipe pan shape = Rectangle (length and width), Diameter, side or length (recipe) = 33, Width for a rectangle (recipe) = 23, Your pan shape = Round (diameter), Diameter, side or length (your pan) = 24. Result: Multiply the recipe by: 0.596; Recipe pan area: 759 cm²; Your pan area: 452.4 cm².
Limits and caveats
- It assumes the same batter depth and straight sides; pans with sloped sides differ slightly.
- Baking time can change with pan size or depth, so check for doneness early.
Questions about this tool
What square pan matches a 20 cm round pan?
The round pan is about 314 cm², matched by a 17.7 cm square. A 20 cm square is about 27% larger.
Do I multiply every ingredient by the factor?
Yes, flour, sugar, eggs and liquids alike. Round eggs to the nearest whole or beat and weigh them.
Does it matter if I use cm or inches?
The factor is the same as long as both pans use the same unit; the unit only labels the areas.
