How to use it
- Enter amount, measure, measuring spoons, pepper form and your own weighed teaspoon in grams (optional).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
grams = number of spoons × weight per spoon. In the source for the first option (Ground black pepper): 1 tsp = 2.3 g, 1 tbsp = 6.9 g. For metric spoons the weight is multiplied by the volume ratio: 5 ÷ 4.929 for a teaspoon and 15 ÷ 14.787 for a tablespoon, about 1.4% more.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 2, Measure = Teaspoon, Measuring spoons = US spoons (as in the source), Pepper form = Ground black pepper. Result: Weight in grams: 4.6 g; Grams per teaspoon used: 2.3 g.
Limits and caveats
- Figures are for a spoon leveled with a knife; a heaped spoon weighs clearly more.
- For whole peppercorns USDA lists the teaspoon only (2.9 g), so the tablespoon is derived by volume: 3 × 2.9 = 8.7 g.
