How it is calculated
grams = cups × 147 g per US cup (236.59 mL). For a 250 mL metric cup the weight is 147 × 250 ÷ 236.59 = 155.33 g. A US tablespoon is 1/16 cup and a teaspoon 1/48 cup; metric spoons are 15 mL and 5 mL.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 2, Measure = Cup, Cup standard = US cup (236.6 mL). Result: Weight in grams: 294 g; Weight in ounces: 10.37 oz; Grams per cup used: 147 g.
Limits and caveats
- The USDA figure (147 g) is for chopped Deglet Noor; the chart gives no cup weight for Medjool, and soft dates may weigh more.
- Chopped dates pack easily, and pressing them into the cup raises the weight.
- Whole dates with pits are not covered by this tool.
