How to use it
- Enter amount, measure, measuring spoons and your own weighed teaspoon in grams (optional).
- The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
- Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.
How it is calculated
grams = number of spoons × weight per spoon. In the source: 1 tsp = 2.6 g, 1 tbsp = 7.8 g. For metric spoons the weight is multiplied by the volume ratio: 5 ÷ 4.929 for a teaspoon and 15 ÷ 14.787 for a tablespoon, about 1.4% more.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 2, Measure = Teaspoon, Measuring spoons = US spoons (as in the source). Result: Weight in grams: 5.2 g; Grams per teaspoon used: 2.6 g.
Limits and caveats
- Figures are for a spoon leveled with a knife; a heaped spoon weighs clearly more.
- Grind, moisture and brand change the weight, so if you weigh your own spoon once, enter it in the optional box.
Questions about this tool
How many grams are in a teaspoon of cinnamon?
2.6 g of ground cinnamon in a level teaspoon per USDA, and 7.8 g in a tablespoon.
Do these figures apply to cinnamon sticks?
No. Sticks are counted or weighed directly; these figures are for ground cinnamon only.
Does it change with metric measuring spoons?
Slightly. The figures are for US spoons (4.93 mL and 14.79 mL); metric spoons of 5 mL and 15 mL hold about 1.4% more, so pick "Metric spoons" to adjust.
