Processing and privacy: The result is calculated inside your browser and your data is not sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Enter text.
  2. The result appears straight away and updates as you edit.
  3. Copy the result, or copy a link that keeps the same values to share it.

How it is calculated

Each Latin letter is split into its base letter and combining marks by Unicode canonical decomposition (NFD) and the marks are dropped. Letters like ß, æ and ø become ss, ae and o, and characters from other scripts stay unchanged.

Example

Result: Result: Cafe Creme, Zoe Muller, Sao Paulo, Angstrom; Characters changed: 7.

Café Crème, Zoë Müller, São Paulo, Ångström
Cafe Creme, Zoe Muller, Sao Paulo, Angstrom

Limits and caveats

  • Greek and Cyrillic letters are left alone, since removing their marks changes the letter itself.
  • The change is letter by letter, so Müller becomes Muller, not Mueller.

Questions about this tool

Are Arabic diacritics affected?

No. Only marks on Latin letters are removed. Use the Arabic diacritic remover for harakat.

Why does ü become u and not ue?

The tool drops the mark only. Writing ue is a German convention that does not apply to every language.

Does it help when making URL slugs?

Yes. Removing accents is a common step before turning a title into a plain Latin slug.
