How it is calculated
grams = cups × 140 g per US cup (236.59 mL). For a 250 mL metric cup the weight is 140 × 250 ÷ 236.59 = 147.94 g. A US tablespoon is 1/16 cup and a teaspoon 1/48 cup; metric spoons are 15 mL and 5 mL.
Example
Inputs: Amount = 2, Measure = Cup, Cup standard = US cup (236.6 mL). Result: Weight in grams: 280 g; Weight in ounces: 9.88 oz; Grams per cup used: 140 g.
Limits and caveats
- Fine and coarse bulgur pack differently, and the USDA figure (140 g) does not state the grind.
- How you fill the cup changes the weight: spoon it in and level it without packing, or weigh your cup once and enter the figure in the optional box.
- Figures are for the dry product before cooking or soaking; cooked weight is much higher because it absorbs water.
